DSD Sage MAS 90 Tech Tip 38 - Windows XP Service Pack 2 supported on Sage MAS 3.71, Sage MAS 4.0

by Ken Phillips

On September 2, 2004, Sage Software released new Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200 Supported Platform Matrix including support for the Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Windows XP SP2 is supported with Sage MAS 90, MAS 200, and Sage MAS 200 SQL 3.71 and higher. Prior versions have not been tested, and are not supported with SP2.

You may get a “Windows Security Alert. Windows Firewall has blocked some features of this program. Do you want to keep blocking this program?” when starting Sage MAS 200 3.71 from Windows XP after installing SP2. This message results when the Windows XP Firewall has been enabled on the workstation. This feature is enabled by default after installing the Windows Service Pack 2.

Click ‘Unblock’ to close the message, and start Sage MAS 200.

This issue does not effect Sage MAS 200 4.0, or any version of Sage MAS 90.

The Sage MAS 200 splash screen will hang if anything other than 'Unblock' is selected. The workstation will continuously try to start Sage MAS 200 even though the program is blocked. Open Task Manager and choose End Task on the MAS90DLG.EXE task and PVXWIN32.EXE task.
If the 'Keep Blocking' option was selected, then the Windows Security Alert will no longer appear but Sage MAS 200 will unsuccessfully continue attempting to start each time. After ending the MAS90DLG.EXE and PVXWIN32.EXE tasks, manually add 'ProvideX for Windows' as an Exception to the Windows Firewall. To do this:

1. Start the Windows Firewall application.
2. Select the 'Exceptions' tab.
3. If "ProvideX for Windows" or "Pvxwin32.exe" appear, select (check) the checkbox to add it as an exception.
4. If "ProvideX for Windows" or pvxwin32.exe do not appear, then they are not being blocked. Perform either of the following:

a) Start Sage MAS 200 normally and select 'Unblock' when prompted.
b) Manually add the exception to the firewall:

5. Click 'Add Program' on the 'Exceptions' tab and browse to and select the workstation's local ..\Mas90\Home\PVXWIN32.EXE.
Note: Do not add the Pvxwin32.exe located in the the server's ..\Mas90\Home\ folder.
