The excitement and foot traffic was palpable at the big show this year. NRF 2011 was undoubtedly an event that re-enforced that retailers are out of the wilderness and serious about growing and consolidating their customer-related and operational assets. While taking care of the customer is a retailer’s prime directive, success in 2011 hinges on developing increased customer-centric service and sales models in-stores, headquarters, and supply chain. Retailers gave a resounding ‘yes’ when it comes to the power of social and digital channels as part of an integrated cross-channel marketing strategy. Meanwhile, continued store restructuring, and an integrated supply chain both on the supply-side and demand-side were key messages on the operations side of the business. The major themes echoing throughout the show were around mobility, cross-channel, and data integration and visibility.
