Enterprise Search for Operational Intelligence

Enterprise Search for Operational Intelligence

Brought to you by DSD Business Systems and the Aberdeen Group

Traditionally, business intelligence has been used to drive decision-making by bringing order and insight to structured (transactional) data. Conversely, enterprise search was used to find information in unstructured data, such as webpages, emails and office documents. Prior research by the Aberdeen Group found that 61% of organizations implemented search to improve employee productivity, while 47% aimed to improve decision making.

Aberdeen's hypothesis is that organizations will increasingly seek a unified approach that allows management decision-making to encompass both structured and unstructured data and not treat the two as distinct entities. Organizations taking this unified approach can expect to:

      • Improve the quality of their decision making
      • Cut the time required to make decisions at all levels of management
      • Improve their ability to respond to business change
