DSD's New President

San Diego - October 9, 2002 - DSD Business Systems is pleased to announce that Doug Deane has re-assumed the title of President. Doug is the original founder of DSD Business Systems, and served as its President from 1984 to 1996. Doug graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. Doug was named as one of San Diego KGTV's Leaders of the Year in 1990 for creating a software system that allowed the speaking-impaired to "talk" on the phone. Doug was also named as one of the ten Entrepreneurs of the Year in 1995 by the San Diego Business Journal, and was recently named as the Allen C. Paul Award recipient by the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce for pioneering the Ethics in Business program for local high school students.

Best Advanced Notice of Support Discontinuation

This notice addresses two specific issues: 1. Desktop operating system retirement, and 2. The discontinuation of support for SQL Server 7.0 Desktop operating system retirement • Windows 98 • Windows 98 Second Edition • Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Microsoft will obsolete these desktop operating system products as of June 30, 2003.

In order to give our customers as much time as possible to upgrade their desktops to current operating systems, Best will discontinue support for these products six months after Microsoft, on December 31, 2003. This is necessary to provide the highest-quality support possible, and to enable us to take advantage of new features and benefits of modern operating systems. If you have desktop computers that run any of these products, we recommend they upgrade those systems to the latest version of Microsoft desktop operating systems for business, which is currently Windows XP Professional. Please note that while Best supports Windows XP Home, its feature set is not designed for business applications, and is not recommended; customers running Windows Millennium Edition (ME) should consider upgrading as well for the same reasons.

It’s also important to take the hardware requirements of newer operating systems into account when upgrading; the hardware requirements for Windows XP are significantly higher than those for Windows 95. Please refer to the current Supported Platform Matrix on the Partner File Center for details. SQL Server 7.0 retirement Following the 4.0 release of MAS 200 for SQL Server next year, SQL Server 2000 will be required. This is to allow Best to leverage features not available in SQL Server 7.0. MAS 200 for SQL Server customers should be certain to run the latest version of SQL Server so to take full advantage of the many new features that will be available in version 4.0.
