DSD Assists San Pascual Academy
DSD Assists the San Pasqual Academy Which Sustained Major Fire - Related Losses
San Diego, CA – November 6, 2007 – DSD Business Systems is working with Pardee Homes in San Diego to help get the San Pasqual Academy back on its feet. DSD made a large donation to the academy, which will be matched by Pardee Homes. This effort to assist San Pasqual Academy has been spearheaded by DSD’s VP Programming, Jon Reiter and his wife Kylie.
San Pasqual Academy is a first-in-the-nation residential education campus designed specifically for foster teens. The Academy is located in Escondido, CA and provides foster teens with a stable, caring home, a quality, individualized education, and the skills needed for independent living.
The Academy opened in October 2001 and currently has a bed capacity for 135 youth. Eventually, the Academy will be home for up to 250 youth.
The 238-acre campus features individual family-style homes, an on-site, accredited high school, a computer for each youth in the homes, a cafeteria, a technology and career information center, an assembly hall, recreation fields, and a swimming pool. Teens live and learn at the Academy as they prepare for college and/or a career path.
Doug Deane, President of DSD, said,” The academy was surrounded by the Witch Creek fire on October 22, and tragically half of their facility, burned down. There were a total of 18 homes, where the students reside with volunteer senior citizens who act as parents and grandparents to these kids. Now there are 9 homes standing, and the extent of the damage to the remaining ones is unknown - perhaps a few more will be deemed uninhabitable as well. They can not return to the area, or their school until it is rebuilt. They are homeless again. DSD will do everything in its power to help them get back on their feet.”
